Fully transparent design, sustainable performance, and architectural integration
The Helicon is a landmark office and retail building located at the intersection of Finsbury Pavement and South Place in the City of London. Designed by Sheppard Robson for London & Manchester Assurance, the building was conceived as one of London’s early examples of sustainable mixed-use architecture.
The entrance foyer forms a striking double-height space of approximately nine metres, enclosed by a suspended curved steel and glass façade. This façade creates a triple-glazed void that functions as a thermal flue, contributing to the building’s energy efficiency while allowing generous natural daylight into the interior.
BDS Entrances delivered a bespoke fully glazed Circular Full Vision CFV 3000 MX revolving door, designed to integrate seamlessly with the façade structure. The result is a transparent, elegant entrance solution that enhances the architectural clarity of the building while supporting its sustainable performance.
Architectural transparency at its core
The revolving door at The Helicon was designed as an integral part of the façade rather than a standalone element. Its glass roof and vertical glass fin contribute structurally, ensuring continuity between entrance and building envelope.

Preserving design integrity
In 2013, the building underwent a refresh with conservation of the original revolving door concept, reaffirming the timeless quality and durability of the bespoke entrance solution delivered by BDS Entrances.
